Site traffic, widgets and such

See that widget on the side that tracks visitors? Yes, that one. I've noticed that the number of visitors recorded by Sitemeter is vastly lower than those tracked by the widget? Does anyone know why? Oddly I see numbers that vary wildly on Sitemeter between zero and a hundred while the widget seems to track a fairly even number of visitors. Just strikes me as odd, that's all.

Rough guess: the widget might be counting total page loads, while the sitemeter might be counting user sessions, so if someone visits more than one page in a visit to your site, he would show up multiple times in the widget and only once in sitemeter.

Or, one of them is just screwing up.

I'm going w/ option "B" because I'm seeing IP's on the widget that SiteMeter isn't showing. Very odd.

Or there are people like me who turn off javascript and cookies, so the only your webhost can log my IP and your widget won't work.

Of course you are a pain because you require cookies and javascript to comment. But I clear them and turn them back off when I'm done. And I only allow the minimum scripts required to comment.

I haven't been here enough to affect your stats, but I am not alone...
