"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."
-C. S. Lewis
Call me crazy. I find that most women I know are constantly dissecting converstations and communications for subtext or hidden meanings. Every inflection, expression and gesture is scrutinized for the true intent of the message. Why can women not seem to speak plainly and take words on their face value. When I say, "I'm just tired and therefore, grumpy". It doesn't mean, "Please pester me endlessly as to what is really and truly bothering me because I cannot bear to speak of it unless you ask me repeatedly for the next 9 hours."
When your female friend says, "my kids are a real handful." It means just that. It's doesn't mean "...whereas yours are not and you have it easy sister so stop complaining."
