Cause, you know, they have editors...

ZOMFG! Exclusive footage from inside the Air France crash!!!!!11!!!! or not. Apparently none of the news staff have seen LOST. Yet another example to pull out when we hear that Real News (TM) has layers of fact checkers and editors to keep them honest. Pure krep.

At the first sign of trouble, quit.

Last Thursday, Delaware Watch was asking; How's the Surge Going? In typically snide fashion Dana is using his vast military experience and counterinsurgency knowledge to beat up on poor hapless David Petraeus. "The truth of the matter is that the surge has never been working. The temporary lack of hostilities within Iraq has only created the appearance of success. But the real reason for the lack of hostilities has been that the various Shia factions found it in their political best interests to cease their hostilities and they had little, if anything, to do with addition of 33,000 more US troops in Iraq. Now that the political situation has changed and hostilities have re-emerged, the facade of the surge's success has been removed" So after about 11 minutes of shooting Dana wails and moans that all is lost and see I told you so. Or not. Sadr orders followers to cease fire . Why would that be? Back to Dana: Part of the surge strategy was to strengthen the governmen...

Fevered Imagined Depths of Depravity

Warning: What follows comes from a deeply warped mind. At first I assumed this was simply an attempt to be funny that falls flat. I reread it and I think she really does believe this is exactly what would have happened. Firedoglake imagines what might have been if Algore had won in 2000 . September 16, 2001: 150,000 UN-led troops, 100,000 of whom are US forces, leave for Afghanistan. Saddam Hussein, who as a secularist Muslim leader despises Osama bin Laden and is in any event eager to get back in the world's good graces, assists in setting up staging areas in Iraq for the UN . In Teheran, Iran's moderate leadership , which needs the help of the world community in beating back the conservative mullahs, agrees to let UN troops and planes pass through Iran unhindered . Iraq eager to get back in the world's good graces? This is ludicrous beyond description. Further, declaring any part of Iran's leadership "moderate" is beyond belief. I suppose if you...

Clueless idiot

Guns, burglary, and self-defense I’ve never understood why anyone would keep a gun in their home to protect themselves from burglars. If you had a violent stalker ex, or someone who was was bent on invading your home in order to hurt you, I could see the rationale for being armed. But buying a gun to protect against burglars is no protection at all. It’s not like you’re going to stand guard every night to deter them. So....I have to assume that someone who breaks into my house in the middle of the night isn't a violent maniac? You have to be kidding. Interrupting a burglary with a gun probably unnecessary and likely counterproductive because you have no idea how the burglar’s going to react. Desperate criminals are human, too. I’m not pointing this out as a plea for compassion. I’m just noting that strung-out junkies at gunpoint are at least as likely to do something stupid as your average person. Maybe they’re armed, too. Maybe they’ll panic and try to get the gun away from you....

Class envy, class warfare

De la Where has a rant about wealthy and class envy. As usual, he's oversimplifying things to the point of straw man. So in essence you are saying that I should get over my envy and become that which I despise? That's a clear indication that you despise rich people. Liberals are supposed to be all about nuance but you paint rich people with the broadest brush possible. Are there no rich people who are not worthy of spite? If not, why not? Is there something intrinsically wrong with being rich? That I should reward my self with enormous sums of money and force my employees to be squeezed financially more and more for my own gain? No, there are plenty of rich people who own companies that don't do that. SAS Institute is a prime example. Isn’t that called exploitation? Perhaps that is what angers us, not class envy. Exploitation implies force. Employees are not forced to work in any job or for any employer. Next up is a laundry list of perfidity: I should aspire to ge...

President as Commander in Chief

Whenever I need a good starting point for fishbarreling some lefty position or another I can always count on Donviti. Once again, he delivers like Karl Malone in the paint with this post . It's a link to this article . One of the many fatuous comments include: We used to take pride in civilian leadership of the military under the Constitution, a principle that George Washington embraced when he avoided military symbols at Mount Vernon. We are not led — or were not in the past — by caudillos. The good professors embarassing lack of historical knowledge makes me wonder what has become of Northwestern. I can only hope the man is not a professor of American history. Little old me, without advanced (or even undergraduate) degrees in history knows that during the Continental Congress Washington wore his uniform to the debates every day for 66 straight days despite the fact that he was not under arms and we were not at war. Nor was he in attendance in his capacity as a general. Furth...
