Kennewick reservist faces threats over landscaping

Kennewick reservist faces threats over landscaping: "'I really don't give a [expletive] where he is or what his problem is,' said Chick Edwards, owner and developer of the 47-lot subdivision at the south end of Oak Street in Kennewick.

'It doesn't matter to me,' said Edwards, who insists Jensen has violated terms of the homeowners-association covenants requiring that landscaping be completed within one year after an occupancy permit is issued for a home."

Tar. Feathers. Some assembly required.

I'm on the HOA's side.

This guy has a pregnant wife and kid at home. He has a huge amount of tax-free money coming in because he is serving overseas. He or his family has had the time and the means to hire a landscaper.

This hasn't happened because the landscaper he hired stiffed him, his wife and kids went to stay with family elsewhere, and no one has been managing the property properly. Which is exactly what the HOA manager has alleged and really isn't a defense of their actions.

The family could have taken care of things, but they didn't. The family can try to claim they are "materially affected" by the deployment to get the benefits of Section 308 of the SCRA. But the HOA guy has a right to be hot, even before the Lt. claims he is going to flaunt HOA deed restrictions to rent his house.

Look it's one thing to be angry but to be such an asshole about it is unwarranted. The guy hired someone to do the job. He's in a war zone and his wife is 3,000 miles away. It's not as if she can fly across the country to deal with it. I agree that he needs to take care of his lawn but how about a modicum of reason in the process?
I agree that the HOA guy is a jerk. And this sucks for the family. But you don't just abandon your property like that, what if they came home to find their house broken into or people squatting on the land? Not smart at all.

I'm just saying this was handled poorly by both sides, not just the HOA clown.
