The troubles for Democrats

What Biden makes up in the experience, he appears to lack in judgment.

Biden's Blink on Iran: "Yet far from assuming a moderate posture, 'the elected representatives in Iran' allocated nearly 70 percent of the hard currency windfall into military and nuclear programs. The November 2007 National Intelligence Estimate affirmed the fruits of such investment when it found that Iran had pursued a nuclear weapons program until 2003. Although Biden's embrace of engagement coincided with Iran's nuclear warhead work, he acknowledged no error."

And

"The next month, the Senate considered a bipartisan amendment to designate the Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization, an important step to aid nonviolent efforts to deny it funds and financing. Biden was one of only 22 senators to vote against it. "I voted against the amendment to designate Iran's Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization because I don't trust this administration," he said. Distrust of the U.S. president is the nature of politics, but skepticism about foreign dictators and their Brown Shirts is the backbone of judgment."

He's willing to embolden a terrorist sponsoring nation because he doesn't trust the President. Look, you can have all the distrust for the President you want but it's not his own personal assessment. It's based on solid intelligence information. Ignoring that and blaming the President is cheap politicking.

Biden has a history of plagarism as well.

If you give Biden the benefit of the doubt—and I don't—you'd expect that such a calamitous "mistake" from his youth would have seared into his mind the importance of keeping his mitts off of other people's words. That it didn't speaks terabytes about his character.

Not just that he stole the life story of a British politician and passed it off as his own. Reminds me of The Jerk when Steve Martin says he was born a "poor black child". Navin at least admitted he was a jerk.

Then there's Obama's $800,000 oopsie. In true Chicago style he gave money to his cronies and hid it by moving it through a host of non-profit agencies that all share the same address, board members and Enron style accounting. When they get caught they blame it on an innocent mistake. Right. Sure.

For eight years we've been told that Bush is alternately an Evil Genius and a Dunce. Both at the same time somehow. Meanwhile the Democrats have anointed a candidate who thinks there are 57 states and doesn't even know what city he's in.

Democrats are also immune from laws they don't like. They are free to violate election laws if it means having a good time. What's the harm? Oh, nothing except you have industry people side by side with lawmakers with no press around. Nothing to see here, move along.

...it’s all ball bearings these days: "I just can’t look at him or hear him speak without thinking of every character Chevy Chase has ever played. Every venal, vain, fast-talking, stumbling, glad-handling white-bread schmoe, from Clark W. Griswold to Dusty Bottoms to Emmett Fitz-Hume, spring unavoidably to mind."

Exactly what I've been thinking but have been unable to qualify. He's been in the Senate since I was born. It has warped him. The lefties in the DE blogosphere hold him up as a regular guy. In touch with the common man. Utter nonsense. He hasn't had a real job in 36 years. They point to his relative lack of wealth compared to McCain. Big deal. Being rich doesn't make you out of touch and closer in income to the rest of us doesn't make you in touch either.

Thirty Six years of privilege as a US Senator and he's "in touch". Spare me.

Lastly, TaxProf is pointing out that Biden is even more Leftist on taxes than Obama. The GOP would be wise to pound on the two of them for this for the next few months. Democrats think class warfare is a winning strategy but Middle America knows it's not right and usually find themselves in the middle of any tax increases despite assurances to the contrary.

The upside:

As much as I think Obama is a political animal, I think his family is the real thing. As noted elsewhere, the kids are charming and certainly unscripted. In that respect they're way ahead of most other political families.

I will also note that in his speech to the Delaware convention I do believe we saw a glimpse of the real man. Biden was choked up and that wasn't playing for the cameras. He knows that this is his swan song. He's finally got the shot at the national title that he's wanted for decades. Will he pull a Lieberman and stay in the Senate as a hedge? I think he might. That, to me, shows fear, doubt and a craven willingness to hold on to power. (And yes that goes for Lieberman too as much as I respect him).
