Paglia pw0ns Democrats

Salon.com | Accent the negative: "It's utter nonsense for Hillary to imply that the alleged 18 million form a solid, lardlike block sworn to her, as in some fascist regime, and that if they aren't 'heard' at the convention, they will swarm like lemmings to the edge of a cliff and fling themselves off."

Well, one can always hope I guess....

More:

"Hillary is setting feminism back -- defining women as petulant brats driven by emotion rather than logic and fair play."

This woman is brutal. There are some more hits up top about Republicans (talk radio really):

"A tap-dancing Rockette line of mutually contradictory Obamas has been trotted out to scare the public -- the secret Muslim traitor; the radical leftist with a bag of bombs; the snobby, out-of-touch elitist; the magical Messiah with healing hands; the Peter Pan naif who can't sharpen a pencil. But here's the bad news -- it's working. "

She's right, of course. Sadly, this has become the standard fare for politics. Bush is either lampooned as a dunce and simultaneously an evil fascist dictator with a grand plan. Which is is? Dunce or Genius? They could never decide. We're seeing the same thing with Obama. His policy positions are radical enough that it would be enough to destroy his chances. However, Democrats are making this race about appearances, not issues. They're offering the faithful the chance to bask in the reflected glory of electing Him.

That is not to say issues have no place in the race but it is a smaller one than charisma. This is Nixon/Kennedy all over again. Kennedy had no chance against Nixon on radio. Nixon had no chance against Kennedy on TV. I have news for you; TV ain't going anywhere.

How does it play out Mr. Smart Guy?

I think Obama peaked too early. The shine is wearing off and people are starting to say, "Wait a minute. Where am I and how did I get here?" after being swept along on the wave of Hope. The situation in Georgia has only helped McCain. His comments on the situation we're great but he came off better prepared to meet the challenge. Obama came out weakly and firmed up his position later but only slightly less weak.

Americans vote for Democrats when they think the world at large is running just fine on it's own and isn't going to either attack us or cause some sort of problem that will require a military response. When they don't, they elect Republicans. Where Democrats piddle, twiddle and resolve, Republicans blindly rush in and blow stuff up. As a nation we prefer decisive action even if it's wrong to endless preening and "stern warnings" and other UN grade nonsense.

If things continue apace, the race will be fairly close but McCain will win with a small but clear majority. (Yes I realize I'm on a limb here but if you're coming here for your predictions about the elections you really should read more blogs)

So far Obama has run as the blank slate candidate. He's the guy people could project their wants and desires on via empty slogans like Hope and Change. What is really astonishing is that Obama has openly admitted this in interviews.

The problem with being the blank slate candidate is the other guys can project people's fears and anxiety with about the same success rate. Which is what is happening now.

Despite the claims, I don't think these are self-contradictory. For example, being snobby and a radical Leftist seem to go hand in hand. And, I'd bet many elitists can't do a lot of stuff for themselves. (Roadiside emergency tire changes exist for the wealthy, not the poor.) Plus, many of these characterizations are more making fun of how people view him, as much as how he views himself. I'm not sure Obama really believes he's the Messiah, but I bet a decent number of his supporters do.
