1. Miller's Crossing

Brilliant film. Pitch perfect.

2. The Thin Red Line

Contemplative and moving. Not your typical war movie. Borders on the existential nature of warfare.

4. Road To Perdition

The best non-superhero adaptation of a comic book to date.

5. Casino
9. Fresh

A little known film but very well done. Inner city noir thriller.

10. Bringing Out The Dead
15. Ronin
18. In The Company Of Men
20. Kundun

Visually stunning.

24. True Romance
25. Requiem For A Dream

Overdone. Not a bad film but veers off course and violate suspension of disbelief.

26. Strange Days
28. Any Given Sunday

So many naked men in this movie it makes Top Gun look straight.

31. Men Of Honor

Excellent film about one man fighting the odds and winning big.

Couldn't watch more than a few minutes of this dreck. Read the book and am forever mentally scarred for doing so. Making this into a movie was a bad, bad idea.

Noisy summer movie. Jump cuts come so fast and furious should include a warning for epileptics

Excellent neo-noir murder mystery with a twist.

Couldn't decide whether it wanted to be a comedy or an action movie. Aimed for both and hit neither.

Wanted to be a dark movie and wimped out in the third act and tried for dark comedy which fails miserably.

Underrated!? Overpraised methinks.

Eddie Murphy as Eddie Murphy. Well directed but ultimately missing something.

Really? Beatty is flat and unengaging. The

Worst reviewed

88 - Elektra

Fans of the comic wept.

87 - White Noise

Good premise, started out OK and by the middle you think you're watching a different movie.

86 - Darkness Falls

Meh. Not that bad. Not great either.

85 - Gods and Generals

I rather enjoyed it. More about the causes of the war and why it was fought than how. Stephen Lang at his finest.

47 - The Adventures of Pluto Nash

I didn't make it through the opening scene and I'm a Jay Mohr fan.

30 - Darkness
Again, this one wasn't that bad. Good job setting the mood. A little slow but overall better than average for horror movies.

14 - Battlefield Earth
Hands down one of the best worst movies ever. Watching this train wreck is just amazing. The preposterousness of the story is beyond your wildest imagination.

12 - Godsend
I love DeNiro but this was not a good movie. Great acting all around but they're swimming in air. There's nothing to move the story.

For Gerard

 Many moons ago, I started reading blogs and shortly thereafter I started reading them.  I became discouraged because I read many writers, far more talented than me and the ease with which they elucidated the very points I wanted to make but so much more elegantly and completely that I just gave up.    Gerard of American Digest was one such writer.  His facility with prose and his ability to evoke emotion was remarkable.  I linked to him once with my nascent blog and he was kind enough to reach out to me and thank me for the link.  I literally had zero readers.  Just like now.  But that was the measure of the man.  He took the time to reach out to me and genuinely thank me for the link.   The closest I ever had to meeting the man was meeting Morgan in person.  Morgan and Gerard were friends.  They had an evident mutual respect for their respective works.   I never met Gerard, didn't know the man personally but having read his work I had a sense of the man.  He's dying now.  If

So....the autism thing

Since April is nearly over and it's autism awareness month, I suppose I should talk a bit about it. I guess the best way to start is to rehash the story of How I Got Here. My oldest was born in 1999. Healthy, happy and so on. One peculiar thing he did as an infant was to avoid eye contact. Our doctor assured us it was because he was so young and his eyesight was undeveloped and he was probably focusing on something in the background that was more interesting. Besides, babies don't recognize faces for a few months after birth. Only later did we find out that our doctor was an idiot. He was 16 mos. old when his little brother was born and he was walking and making wishes known by pulling me or my wife by the hand to whatever he wanted etc. He was fascinated with the wheels on toys. If you gave him a truck he'd turn it over and spin the wheels and smile. Only later would I find out this is a major warning sign. This was our first born and what the hell did I know?
