Vatican plan to block gay priests. Given that this comes from the Guardian, I cast a skeptical eye on the story. It is still possible that it is true. I can see how this would be very controversially. I can't say I agree with it either. If a priest is faithful to the magesterium and keeps his vows, where is the problem? What would it matter? Sure, say you, what about the sordid tales of life in the seminaries. Simply put. Kick them out. They are violating their oaths. Bishops need to clean their own houses. If they have seminaries that are straying from the teachings of the church, oust the Prior/Abbot. When Vatican II careened out of control in the 70's (I speak as a witness) the watershed of parishoners began. The middle grounders were the largest numbers to leave. What remained was a core of traditional, faithful people. They tend to have larger families and now we're seeing the fruit of that tree. Conservative seminaries and churches are full and even overflowing in some cases. This is going to have a multiplying effect over time. Larger families expand very quickly. Even if only half keep that strength of faith, the Church will expand outward dramatically in the coming years.

B16 is no shrinking violet. But I'm sure he knows that even a carefully worded document would cause a firestorm. I'm of the opinion that you have to give gay people somewhere to go. It is unreasonable to tell them they cannot find a partner, raise children, follow a vocation or have any physical relationship whatsoever. You're asking them to sit on the sidelines for the biggest part of life. Therein lies the quandry. If this document ever comes to light, it will likely stress the things noted above, fidelity to the magesterium and adherence to one's vows. I may be wrong (and very wrong at that).
