The Politics of Blood

The Politics of Blood

This is very very disconcerting:

I am prepared to do whatever is necessary to destroy the Republican Party as it exists today as well as everything it stands for.

That means Republicans are not just wrong but evil and must be destroyed. Literally, destroyed. Freeberg spoke of Eliminationism I thought he was wrong and was overstating the danger. As usual, I was wrong.

This is about Power . . . How it is obtained—and how it is wielded in ways that affects all of us.

Are you telling me that you would not use character-destroying lies to ensure a war against Iran does not occur?

Are you telling me you would not spread lies about a man’s integrity, even if it defeated a candidate who take away the right to choose [to kill babies]?

Are you telling me you would not destroy the love a family holds for one another, even if it meant letting someone who would destroy the constitution become president?

I am absolutely appalled. This person needs serious mental help. This is sociopathic and bordering on psychopathic. Most of these people will seethe and bark and bray and hopefully none will take up violence to further their cause. However, Kos, by allowing this type of thing to fester is at best, unwise.

When Republicans said we should use torture on terrorists or suspected terrorists, they used the very lines that follow. Ironically, they're from the same commenter as above:

None of use would use these tactics in a perfect world. It is not a perfect world. It is a fallen world. We have to judge costs and benefits, not moral absolutes. I know this is the way to fanaticism and destruction—believe me I do. But, when we face opponents such as the ones we face . . . what else is there for us to do?

What choice do we have? When faced with monsters, we have to be monstrous ourselves.

This is the exact same line I heard from extreme right wingers who supported torture. These same people, using this exact line of logic are monstrous to the Left yet the use their self same logic.

What's the end game?

This is the blade by which politics turns to bloodshed.

I have been thinking about this politics business for some time and it got me to thinking.

We have two parties, both with usually polar positions on the issues, but politics is not a polar game. It is a game of compromise and common ground. The issues discussed and the topics these bills cover have many many implications for each shade of gray.

Now in public these politicians act like they are in a black and white argument, with no middle ground to be had, but once behind closed doors, it's all about compromising a vote to get something they want.

It makes me wonder why we feed into this facade of hatred and division when, in two months, they all have to face each other and work together.

Actually, you're right a great deal more often than most of the other folks I read. In fact, even though you were wrong here, you were certainly right to admit it. Most folks wouldn't have.

I would have to add that out of all the times in my existence in which it was my proper and fitting place to say "I told you so!" -- there are many -- this one gives me, for obvious reasons, far less pleasure than any other. These people are sick in the head, they're out to destroy others, their whack-job political "agendas" cannot exist without destruction, and we allow them to pretend otherwise far too much of the time, and for way too long.

They say things that imply "we're all in the same boat" but they don't mean it. Every position they take, on any issue, has to do with eliminating or gettin' even with some dirty so-and-so. Every single one. Even on things that have to do with diseases and hurricanes. There's always some Snidely Whiplash due for a come-uppins.

I'm coming to realize that this means "get in my boat or I'll drown you."
