De La Where has a post called

It is time to enforce the laws!

It's a commentary about the illegal immigration issue. That DV is able to even call it illegal immigration and not "undocumented worker" or something is a good sign. However, things go downhill thereafter.

I wouldn't say I have a strong opinion on the matter I would just say that the GOP bullshit about them braking the law and they need to be punished/sent back home is nauseating and so blatantly obvious to be political appeasement that I have to have an opinion.

Apparently, wanting to punish people who break laws is the exclusive domain of the GOP. Interesting.

Let's continue:

The GOP standard response seems to be that b/c they broke the law and came across illegally they need to be punished and not rewarded for breaking the law. Their stance that they are law breakers and should not be able to get away with breaking the law seems so obvious to them that it should be that obvious to you. We here in the US (make sure your put one hand on your stomach and puff out your chest as you are saying this kind of like Ted Kennedy or better yet Bill Frist) are a nation of laws and no one is above the law....blah, blah, blah you get the point.

so since we are a nation of laws and we want illegals to be prosecuted for their crime of coming to this country making $20 a day and trying to improve their lives I thought I would ask you the reader to think of laws that go unenforced that need to be enforced. I mean we as legal citizens should make sure that we follow all the laws of this country to set a good example to our non english speaking illegal friends. I have a few to get you started.

Strawman. Now all laws are put on the same plane. There is also the bizaare notion that illegal immigrants are working for $20 per day. Assuming they work 7 days a week, they're making $7300 per year. Um, no. The silliness continues:

1. the SPEED LIMIT, after all this is the LIMIT not minimum. so as of now stop breaking the law and go no faster than the limit.

2. Polygamy all you Utahans that enjoy several wives need to be persecuted, the police up there that know of this need to start enforcing the law

3. 'California Roll' You know when you don't come to a complete stop at a stop sign, Stop it! it is illegal!

4. For those of you in the military. Stop getting tattoo's. You are gov't property and are not allowed to deface it. To the brig you go starting now!

5. Littering. All you smokers that through your cigarrette buts out the windows. Stop! you are littering and breaking the law!

I understand that this is an attempt to demonstrate absurdity by being absurd, but it falls flat. Either we punish those who break laws or we do not. The level of harm caused by the breaking of a law is recognized by the courts and punished accordingly. Going 60 in a 55 causes zero social harm. Breaking the laws of this country by not paying taxes and devouring social services at a disproportionate rate. 95% of murder warrants in LA are for illegal aliens. Two thirds of some street gangs are illegal. MS-13 is a notorious and extremely violent street gang that is virtually nationwide and smuggles tons of people into the states for the express purpose of committing crime.

Illegal immigration is a real and serious problem. Dismissing it with a sniff and a wave is not just foolish, it's dangerous. Democrats paint the opponents of illegal immigration as racists and anti-immigrant. Not so. We need immigrants, we are a nation of immigrants. However, we need to know who's coming in and lure those who are going to add to our society. I have no problem with a work program that allows for Mexicans (or whomever) to come in and work under the auspices of a program. However, we need to make the program such that they must be screened in advance and regularly report in to law enforcement and there has to be some sort of financial handcuff to ensure they return to their country of origin after their term expires.

I will address Politakid first:

Sure he makes a few good points but I will tell you what chafes my ass about him. I gave him ample opportunity to address why he supports the war on a blog but wont enlist to serve our country. I did from 92/96 proudly i might add. He is 18 as you know and can serve our country. I find it disgusting that he thinks posting a few lines about the dead De Soldiers is patriotic and fills the void he has to support the troops. I also find it unnerving his unwavering support for the war. It goes beyond my comprehension to support a cause, yet not support it at the same time.
The crux of why he wont enlist is b/c he doesn't want to get killed. So he is all hat and no cowboy in my opinion. Or in essence he doesn't believe what he preaches. Go ahead and support the war all you want but when it comes to an 18 year cheering on the war from the sidelines while there are 3000 dead and 20000 wounded It pisses me off. Sure he supports our administrations ideology then the next step should be for him to enlist right? Why shouldn't he? I have yet to find a good reason why he can't or shouldn't have to serve. We need good kids over there that support this war.

We've been around on this before. The "chickenhawk" arguement is a logical fallacy. We have civilian control of the military. The decision to go to war (or not) is and always will be a political one determined by the citizens. If not, only the military can determine whether or not to go to war. If only those in the military can support a war, then the opposite must also be true. You cannot be against a war if you are not serving either.

Another words he is an 18 year old Hawk. Or to put it bluntly a pussy. So now he has a problem with illegal aliens...which makes him a bigot.

Why is it that a problem with lawbreakers is equal to bigotry. Not all illegals are of a particular race. Go to New York City (or any major metropolitan center) and you'll find Eastern Europeans, Irish, Russian, and so on.

Which leads me to the law breaking analogy.

Tell me why we need to STOP illegal immigration please? I will tell you a dozen reasons why it wont EVER happen and why if we do anything we need to change the laws that force people to enter illegally. If illegal immigration was such a huge threat wouldn't our great leaders already have stopped it, no?

The strain on healthcare, education and law enforcement is enormous. All the money they earn is similarly untaxed and much of it remitted to Mexico to prop up that rotting government. Democrats have no interest in enforcing the law because those illegals are very likely to be Democrat voters. Republicans are beholden to the SBA who needs the cheap labor to stay afloat.

Abject silliness follows:

So everyday we have people breaking laws that could easily be enforced i.e. speeding or changed b/c they don't fit the current system or way of life due to change in the culture or progress in technology. If people like kid and yourself are going to make the arguement that they should be prosecuted for breaking the law then I would assume that you and kid never, ever do any law breaking yourself, right? I mean you are so hell bent on prosecuting those that break the law aren't you? Then I would assume that you follow ALL laws and don't WAIT to be caught before you abide by them....right?

Which is my point. It is hypocritical to say one group should be held accountable for breaking the law, when you, kid or all the other idiots go about their daily lives breaking "little" laws all the time...only they don't get caught doing them. You agree the law should be enforced when someone is caught breaking it from your comment. So they illegals didn't get caught crossing illegally and haven't been caught yet so really they are fine by your standards....?

Again, this is putting all infractions on the same plane. If that's the case, make every crime, not matter what, punishable by death. Littering, loitering, speeding, public drunkeness all punishable by death. Why not? A law is a law is a law, right?
We divide laws into felonies and misdemeanors for a very good reason. To suggest otherwise is absurd.
