FBI Probes Laser Beam Directed at Cockpit

Ask me this is a probing attack to test our responses. Initially I thought this would be found to be something like a kid with a wad of laser pointers doing something stupid. After reading that the attacker managed to shoot this beam into the cockpit when the plane was at 8500 feet clearly indicates this is not the case. I wonder if they recieved this beam weaponry from the Russians who blinded an American pilot. Tracing the beampath backwards to find the source of the beam is helpful. I suspect they'll use metering equipment going forward to triangulate the position of the attacker. I'll venture the attacker will move his location significantly and thereby frustrate such efforts. It would also behoove airports like Newark and O'Hare to pro-actively place metering/tracking equipment around their airports to frustrate similar efforts. They won't, however, as it will be deemed too costly. They'll petition for federal funding which will take longer than most the half-life of Uranium 238.

I wonder if airlines could prevent these types of attacks with refractive glass or glass coating that would not permit such high intensity waves to penetrate the windshield. The other low-tech solution would be for pilots to use goggles that provide similar protection.
